Bridge Piercing
Implant grade titanium straight barbells for the bridge of the nose. The central facial accent that reads from every angle.
The bridge piercing sits horizontally across the top of the nose, between the eyes, at the point where the nose meets the brow. It is one of the most central piercings on the face, visible from every angle and immediately recognized as a piercing rather than a passive accent. The placement reads bold and intentional, often paired with septum, nostril, or eyebrow piercings as part of a comprehensive facial piercing curation.
At Piercing Lab Calgary, every bridge piercing is performed with a sterile single use needle and fitted with an implant grade titanium straight barbell from the first appointment.
Why fit and styling matter
The bridge is a surface piercing, which means it passes through a flat plane of tissue rather than through cartilage or a defined fold. This makes both the piercing technique and the jewelry choice significantly different from ear or lip placements. Four considerations:
Anatomy first. Not every face has the right anatomy for a bridge piercing. The piercing requires enough soft tissue at the bridge of the nose to hold a straight barbell without pressing on cartilage. We assess your specific bridge anatomy in person and will recommend against the piercing if your anatomy is not suited.
Straight barbell only. Bridge piercings use a small straight barbell with a ball or gem end on each side. Curved barbells, captive rings, and labret studs all sit awkwardly in the bridge channel and increase irritation.
Bar length matters. The initial bar is longer than the final size to accommodate swelling for the first 4 to 6 weeks. Downsizing once swelling settles is essential to keep the jewelry sitting close to the skin without protruding awkwardly.
Pair with intention. Bridge piercings are visually loud and they anchor everything around them. Most clients choose either a single bridge piercing as a standalone facial accent, or pair it with septum and matching small gem ends for symmetric facial curation.
Jewelry material
We exclusively use implant grade titanium and solid gold suitable for long term wear and healing piercings.
Implant grade titanium (ASTM F136). The industry default and what we use for every fresh bridge piercing. Hypoallergenic, proven biocompatible, and necessary for the surface piercing healing process.
Solid 14K or 18K gold. Available for fully healed bridge piercings. Decorative gem ends become available once the piercing is fully settled, typically at the 3 to 6 month mark.
Placement variations
The bridge has two main configurations:
Standard horizontal bridge. The classic placement, with a straight barbell running horizontally across the bridge of the nose between the eyes. Reads as a clean balanced accent.
Vertical bridge (Third Eye). A vertical piercing running up the bridge of the nose toward the forehead, with the lower end sitting at the bridge and the upper end sitting between or just above the brow line. Anatomy dependent and significantly less common than horizontal.
We assess your bridge anatomy before booking. Not every face supports both variations.
Healing and aftercare
Bridge piercings heal in 8 to 12 weeks, faster than most cartilage piercings because the channel passes through soft tissue rather than dense cartilage.
First 4 weeks. Saline rinse twice daily. Avoid touching the jewelry. Keep glasses, sunglasses, and skincare products away from the piercing site. Sleep on your back if possible.
Weeks 4 to 6. Free downsize appointment with any Niori Jewelry purchase. The bridge benefits significantly from downsizing because the initial bar protrudes more than the final settled size.
Weeks 6 to 12. Continue saline rinses as the inside of the piercing continues to remodel. Glasses can be worn carefully, with the frames clearing the piercing site.

Book your bridge piercing at Piercing Lab Calgary
Every appointment includes anatomy assessment, sterile single use needle, implant grade titanium straight barbell from your first wear, and a one on one walkthrough of healing and aftercare. Because the bridge is anatomy-dependent, we recommend a brief consultation before booking to confirm your bridge tissue supports the piercing comfortably.
Frequently asked
How long does a bridge piercing take to heal?
Most bridge piercings heal in 8 to 12 weeks. The channel passes through soft tissue rather than cartilage, which means healing is faster than helix or conch piercings but still requires consistent aftercare for the full window.
Will my glasses interfere with a bridge piercing?
It depends on your frame style. Thin metal frames typically clear the bridge piercing area without contact. Thick acetate frames or wraparound sunglasses can press on the piercing. We recommend testing your daily glasses before booking and switching to lower-bridge frames during initial healing if needed.
Can I get a bridge piercing if my nose is small?
Bridge piercings depend on tissue thickness, not nose size. Even smaller noses can support the piercing if the bridge area has enough soft tissue. We assess your specific anatomy in person rather than judging by nose size alone.
Does a bridge piercing hurt more than other piercings?
The piercing itself is brief and most clients describe it as a sharp pinch followed by watering eyes (a reflex from the area's nerve supply, not an emotional response). The bridge tissue is sensitive but the channel is short.
Will a bridge piercing affect my eyesight?
No. The piercing passes through the bridge of the nose, not anywhere near the eyes themselves. The watering eyes during the piercing are a reflex from nerve stimulation, not eye contact.
What is the difference between a bridge piercing and a third eye piercing?
A bridge piercing is horizontal, running across the bridge of the nose. A third eye is vertical, running up the bridge toward the forehead. Same general region, different orientation.
Can I pair a bridge piercing with septum or nostril?
Yes, this is one of the most common pairings. Matching gem ends across bridge and septum read as a coordinated facial curation. We can plan paired or sequential piercings during consultation.
Can I bring my own jewelry for a new bridge piercing?
For healed bridge piercings we install outside jewelry that meets our material standards. For new piercings we use only studio supplied implant grade titanium straight barbells.
