Nipple Jewelry
Solid 14K gold and implant grade titanium barbells for the nipple. Body piercing performed with the same precision and care as the rest of our work.
Nipple piercings are one of the most personal body piercings, chosen for reasons that range from sensation to aesthetics to self-expression to body reclamation. At Piercing Lab Calgary, we perform nipple piercings with the same precision, sterility, and care as every other placement we offer. The consultation is private, the technique is fast, and the aftercare guidance is detailed.
Every nipple piercing is performed with a sterile single use needle and fitted with an implant grade titanium straight barbell from the first appointment.
Why fit and styling matter
Nipple piercings live in a different reality than the rest of the body. Anatomy varies more here than anywhere else, healing takes longer, and the jewelry decisions affect both comfort and sensation. Four considerations shape every nipple fitting:
Anatomy first. Every nipple is different in size, projection, and shape. We assess each nipple individually before piercing, and the placement angle is chosen to match your specific anatomy rather than a generic template.
Straight barbell, not a ring. All initial nipple piercings use a straight barbell. Rings and captive bead rings cause significantly more movement during healing and have a much higher rejection rate. We switch to rings, hoops, or shields only after the piercing is fully healed.
Bilateral or single. Some clients pierce both nipples in one session; others choose one side at a time. Healing both at once means no comfortable side for sleeping, no comfortable bra fit for several weeks. Single side at a time is gentler on daily life.
Long healing window. Nipple piercings take 9 to 12 months to fully heal, and the inside continues to settle for up to two years. Plan for the timeline before booking, especially if you have upcoming travel, life events, or fitness goals that involve chest movement.
Jewelry material
We exclusively use implant grade titanium and solid gold suitable for long term wear and healing piercings.
Implant grade titanium (ASTM F136). The industry default and what we use for every fresh nipple piercing. Hypoallergenic, proven biocompatible, and the right material for the long healing window.
Solid 14K or 18K gold. Available for fully healed nipple piercings only, typically after 12 months. Decorative ends, gem-set barbells, and statement pieces become available once healing is complete.
Fashion jewelry materials are not used for new piercings at our studio.
Placement variations
The nipple has two main configurations:
Single nipple. One piercing on one side, typically horizontal but occasionally vertical depending on anatomy and preference.
Paired nipples. Both nipples pierced, either in the same session or on separate visits. Most clients prefer the same angle on both sides for visual symmetry.
Anatomy varies significantly between individuals, and not every nipple is well suited to piercing. We will tell you honestly if your anatomy makes the piercing higher risk, and we may recommend an alternative placement or wait period.
Healing and practical considerations
Nipple piercings need 9 to 12 months to fully heal, with full settling sometimes taking up to two years.
First 8 weeks. Saline rinse twice daily. Wear a soft, supportive bra or compression top day and night to limit movement. Avoid underwire, sports bras with seams across the piercing, and lace or textured fabrics. Sleep on your back if possible.
Weeks 4 to 12. Free downsize appointment with any Niori Jewelry purchase. Nipple piercings often need downsizing once the initial swelling settles.
Months 3 to 12. Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and natural water bodies. Avoid partner contact directly on the piercing until fully healed. Light exercise is fine; anything with significant chest movement should be done with extra compression and care.
Long term. Once healed, nipple piercings carry jewelry indefinitely. Many clients keep them for decades.

Frequently asked
How long does a nipple piercing take to heal?
Most nipple piercings need 9 to 12 months to fully heal, with full settling sometimes taking up to two years. The outside may look settled earlier, but the inside continues to remodel for the full window.
Does it hurt?
The piercing itself is brief; most clients describe a sharp pinch followed by an immediate release of tension. The deeper challenge is the long healing window, not the moment of piercing.
Can I get one nipple pierced instead of both?
Yes, this is completely normal. Some clients prefer one side, some pierce both, some return for the second after the first heals. There is no right answer; it is your body and your choice.
What bras should I wear during healing?
Soft, seamless, supportive bras or compression tops, day and night, for at least the first 8 weeks. Avoid underwire, lace, textured fabrics, and anything that creates friction. Many clients find soft bralettes or sports bras with smooth interiors work best.
Will piercing affect breastfeeding?
Nipple piercings do not generally affect the ability to breastfeed, but the jewelry must be removed before nursing. Some clients choose to retire the piercing during pregnancy and re-pierce later, others maintain the piercing and remove the bar during the nursing months.
What is the minimum age for a nipple piercing?
We pierce nipple piercings from age 16 with a parent or guardian present, valid ID for both, and signed consent. From age 18 and up, valid ID alone is required. Below age 16, we do not perform nipple piercings.
When can I switch to a ring or hoop?
Only after the piercing is fully healed, typically 12 months or longer. Switching to a ring too early dramatically increases the risk of rejection and migration. We can install your chosen ring or hoop at a fitting appointment once healing is complete.
Can I bring my own jewelry?
For healed nipple piercings we install outside jewelry that meets our material standards. For new piercings we use only studio supplied implant grade titanium.
